The Franklin County Agricultural Fair features a variety of contests and competitions for patrons of all ages. To view contest and competition entry forms & rules, click here.
Youth Coloring Contest
Show off your coloring skills! Coloring pages and crayons will be available at the Exhibits tent during the fair for children in grades Pre-K through 5th who would like to enter the youth coloring contest.
Artwork will be exhibited and judged with awards being given to the top three winners in each age group.
Photo Contest
Shutterbugs, we want to see agriculture through your eyes! The Franklin County Agricultural Fair Photo Contest provides an opportunity to showcase and appreciate the visual appeal of agriculture. Individuals age 6 or older are invited to enter a photo in the following categories:
- Century Farms/Farming: photos reflecting farms that are 100 years of age or older, or working with century old farm equipment.
- Family Farming: photos of families working on the farm together (planting, harvesting, plowing, or farm activities).
- Farm Animals: photos that highlight farm animals on the farm.
Awards will be given to 1st, 2nd and 3rd places in each category. Entries will be accepted on Monday, September 16 from 2 p.m. – 7 p.m. and Tuesday, September 17 from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. at Franklin County Recreation Park. There is no fee to enter. For rules and entry forms click here.
Barn Quilt Design Competition
Virginia Cooperative Extension – Franklin County is excited to present the “Barn Quilt Design Competition”. Barn quilts are a valued part of Franklin County’s heritage and the VCE office hopes to keep that tradition alive for future generations. The winning design will best represent the diversity and essence of Franklin County. Designs should be submitted on 8 ½ x 11 paper. Each design should represent all attributes of the county (beauty, design, and heritage).
Designs will be accepted beginning August 1st through September 6th at the Virginia Cooperative Extension – Franklin County Office in Rocky Mount. Designs will be judged, and the winning design will be announced on September 18, 2019 and displayed during the fair. For entry information click here.
Competitive Exhibits
Competitive exhibits are a great way to showcase agriculture-related skills and highlight the most prized locally-grown produce and locally-made products in the region. From fresh vegetables and fruit to jams, pumpkins, quilts and more, we’re featuring the best of the best in the region at the Franklin County Agricultural Fair!
Entries will be accepted on Monday, September 16 from 2 p.m. – 7 p.m. and Tuesday, September 17 from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. at Franklin County Recreation Park. There is no fee to enter. Ladies’ Frying Pan Toss
Ladies, what’s your recipe for tossing an iron skillet? Competitors age 18 or older are invited to take our skillet and throw it with all their might to see who can hurl it the farthest.
A winner will be selected based on the greatest distance thrown after the pan comes to a complete stop. No husbands will be injured during this event.
Handsome Man Beard & Mustache Contest
Gentlemen, put down those razors! It’s time to show off your natural facial hair. Competitors age 18 or older are invited to display their beard or mustache to see who has the most impressive facial hair at the fair.
Winners will be selected for best facial hair in each category as well as longest mustache, longest beard and most original facial hair.
